PLUS Application Process

Parents are strongly encouraged to pursue all other forms of financial aid before borrowing a PLUS Loan. You and your student should first complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The postsecondary school your student will be attending prepares a notification which details the financial aid package (grants, work-study, scholarships, loans, etc.) awarded to the student. PLUS Loans can be used to cover unmet financial need or help with meeting the expected family contribution.

If this is your first PLUS Loan for your student, a Master Promissory Note (MPN) must be completed. Check with your school to determine if you need to complete a MPN.

The parent is the applicant for a PLUS Loan.


The Electronic Process

Most postsecondary schools participate in an electronic PLUS Loan process enabling you to complete the application online. National Education works with schools to provide the fastest and easiest electronic loan process possible. If your school does not appear in the drop down box on our application, please contact your school.
